Greetings, friends,
In hindsight, I failed to mention that part of the motivation for the revision to the bylaws was to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest. I apologize for that oversight.
Best regards,
Michael
Greetings, friends.
The club board has passed a revision of its bylaws. Approval of the proposed revision to the current bylaws will have a significant impact on the composition of the Morris Area Freewheeler Foundation Board, our sister organization supporting the Ramble. Since the inception of the Foundation Board many years ago, the president of the bike club was a member of the Foundation Board. This will no longer be the case. In addition, all other bike club board members will either not be allowed to serve on the Foundation Board or will need to recuse themselves from voting on major issues such as whether the club will receive any of the Ramble proceeds from the Foundation and, if the Foundation approves a contribution to the club, the amount of proceeds given to the club by the Foundation board.
Club bylaws state that bylaws can only be changed if the majority of club members present at an in-person membership meeting vote in favor of the change. The club board is in the process of scheduling said meeting sometime in November. The proposed revisions to the bylaws pertain to Article V, Sections 2b, 2c, and 2g. The revised bylaws can be found at https://mafw.org/staging/proposed-by-law-revision-november-5th-2025/. The current club bylaws can be found at https://mafw.org/staging/proposed-by-law-revision-november-5th-2025/.
An AI summary of the club board meeting at which this discussion occurred can be found at https://mafw.org/staging/transcript-of-october-8th-2025-board-meeting/
While the majority of the club board voted to approve the proposed revisions, the vote was not unanimous.
You will be kept informed about the date and location of the in-person member meeting.
Respectfully,
Michael
Good evening, friends.
Today I received an email from the New Jersey Bike and Walk Coalition and here is the content:
Hi Michael,
I wish I could provide that information and you are not the only inquiry we have gotten about this The sad truth is MVC does NOT have a registration process for Class 3 bikes even though it is the law. Since there is new legislation being proposed for registering other e-bikes this is coming to their attention once again. We have reached out to MVC and my understanding is they are in the process of creating that registration system. Although we assume when a law is passed the relevant state department will implement the necessary procedures burt clearly that has not been the case. We’ll keep you in touch as this story unfolds. If there is anyone interested in following this legislation and possibly getting involved in influencing the crafting of it, please let me know. Have fun; stay safe. MichaelVintage Tavern in Gillette is the correct info for this event. Apologies. Time to wipe the egg off of my face!

Greetings, friends.
The club’s Board has voted to revise ride leader awards effective ride year beginning October 1, 2025 as follows:
Lead 15 or more rides in a year, choose a ride leader jersey or $50 gift card. Previously, the minimum number of rides was 12.
Thanks for your attention.
Best regards,
Michael
Greetings, friends.
Our wonderful New Jersey elected officials recently passed a law requiring that class 3 ebikes be registered and that owners must carry liability insurance for them. After spending a lot of time doing a lot of research, it appears that these bikes cannot be registered because the required documentation cannot be obtained by owners. If you want details, shoot me an email or call me.
Some members contacted their insurance carriers and were told that neither auto insurance, homeowner’s insurance, or umbrella policies provide liability coverage for their ebikes. If you own a class 3 ebike, it is recommended that you contact your insurance carrier to determine if any existing policy provides liability coverage for your ebike, At this point, it appears that there are several insurers who will write these policies and one option is to conduct a google search for that.
Best regards,
Michael
Greetings, friends.

Greeetings, friends.
There will be a delicious benefit BYOB luncheon for the Morris Area Freewheelers Foundation at The Gourmet Cafe in Parsippany on Monday, September 29, 2025 from 12:30 until 2:30. This is the second year that Chef Matt and The Gourmet Cafe will be donating a percentage of proceeds from lunch and sales of gift cards to the Morris Area Freewheeler Foundation, As you may know, the Freewheeler Foundation is the organization that provides needed assistance and support for our Revolutionary Ramble. The price for lunch is quite reasonable and you can view the menu here:
We hope to exceed last year’s attendance of 14 people and can assure you a time of great food, fun, and friendship,
Have fun; stay safe.
