Here's a chance to escape NJ for a period of time!  This is a tour that's begging to be ridden since it hasn't been shown much love for a while.. The weather looks much better on Sunday than Saturday so it could be compensation for a rained out social ride.  Join me as we cross the border and visit some roads in PA.

My respectful requests/expectations:

  1. I will sweep as per the Ride Leader manual.
  2. I expect at least 1 person to ride with me, especially since there is always a small possibility that my internal defibrillator will go off.
  3. I prefer that all who sign up commit to riding within the club’s average speed for the posted pace and prefer you not sign up if you plan to exceed the maximum average speed for the posted pace. Anyone who chooses to ride faster than the maximum average speed for the posted pace will be considered to be on your own unless you stop to regroup periodically.
  4. Please be able to maintain the minimum average speed for the posted pace, however, no one will be dropped.
  5. No one rides alone.
  6. Keep an eye on your fellow riders: bikes break, accidents happen, medical emergencies happen.

  1. Travel through scenic roads of NJ and Pennsylvania to the quaint town of Point Pleasant Pa, Not New Jersey.  A town featured prominently in the Revolutionary War where grist mills produced grain for the soldiers. Later it became a resting spot for canal men.  Rest stop at Dharma Bums or Lumberville Store.  Come and enjoy this route, you won't be disappointed

Riders of all paces welcome. Most of the ride is via protected bike lanes.

This year I added a short stop at DUMBO.

Just be aware that you can't ride very fast in NY city, hence the D+ pace, but then there's so much to see.

This ride is near water most of the way which has a cooling effect.

Check the ride description for obtaining a 1-year free parking permit at Ft. Lee.

From Ft. Lee Historic park, with scenic views of the GWB, travel over the bridge to the West Side Greenway, pass BIG ocean liners, Chelsea Pier, and The Little Island park. Follow the Hudson through the World Financial Center yacht basin to the Governor's Island Ferry in Battery Park. Tour the island and take another ferry to Brooklyn Heights  and Montague St. Bagels. Then, eat those great bagels on Brooklyn Heights Promenade with the best vista in NY (walk your bike here). Return is via a quick visit to DUMBO, the Manhattan Bridge and the West Side Greenway.  Great photo-ops as marked on the map. Check the Governor's Island ferry schedules. The ferry from G.I. to Brooklyn is only available from spring to fall. See this video for the history of Governor's Island.

At the start point, there is a one-time charge, currently $5, for a 1-year Palisades parking permit (includes Ft. Lee Historic Park) for seniors over 62.  Click here for details, but don't wait until the Friday before the ride to apply.

Any kind of bike is appropriate for this ride.

The Long Route appeals to those riders who love the challenge of a 60-75 mile ride per day. The Regular Route, typically 40-50 miles per day, tends to attract newer riders & those who plan on spending the day leisurely browsing the markets &  attractions along the way. Many riders even switch back & forth between routes during the week, making the Bon Ton the perfect tour!  Check out the website below for more info and to register.  After registering with Bon Ton please sign up on the MAFW ride schedule so we know who is going.

This is a weekend trip from 8/21 to 8/24/2026.  Lodging is at Ramapo Ski Lodge at Mad River Glen.

Sign-Up for Vermont Biking 3-Day Weekend – August 21-24
This is a 3-day biking weekend in the flat section of North-Central Vermont. We will stay at the
Ramapo Ski Lodge (ramaposkiclub.org) next to the Mad River Ski Area which is on the eastern
side of the Appalachian gap off Route 17 in Vermont. The plan is to ride Saturday, Sunday and
Monday morning, returning home Monday afternoon (to avoid the New York Thruway Sunday
night traffic). Though the lodge can accommodate 40 people, the weekend is limited to 20
people maximum to avoid lodge congestion. So, please sign up early so I can monitor this limit.
Car pooling is encouraged.
The rides are rated as D+/C and include stopping at waterfalls, Vergennes day festival, Lake
Champlain museum, Morgan Horse farm, Breweries/Wineries, Ice Creameries, etc. along the
routes. On hot days, local swim areas will be visited after the rides. Also, the stay is quite
inexpensive as the lodge is just $35 per night per person ($105 for 3 days or $70 for 2 day
option). Meals can be prepared at the ski lodge and the nearby Mad River Base Lodge offers
dinners. Participants must send a check to me made out to me at my address below and I will
send a combined group check to the ski club treasurer for the group reservation. Note that I
must receive all checks by August 17 as the ski club requires payment in advance from a
member.
