CYCLING IN HOT HUMID WEATHER
-Start hydrating at home before you ride. Starting hydration during the ride is too late.
-Water not enough. Mix in electrolytes.
-Bring at least 2 insulated thermal water bottles and keep them cold in the refrigerator overnight. Gives you something cool to drink during the ride.
-During the ride, ride leader should stop periodically to have all riders hydrate.
-Body burns more calories to stay cool. Recommend energy gels, chews or sport drinks.
-Stop at food stop to rest, check riders, buy additional supplies and refill water bottles.
-Ride leaders should start rides early and try to finish the ride by 11am if not sooner.
-Watch for signs of heat cramps, dizziness, or nausea. If you feel unwell, stop immediately, and sit in the shade.
-Ride leaders should be aware of ways to shorten the ride.
-NOBODY RIDES ALONE, ESPECIALLY IN HOT AND HUMID WEATHER.
