We are pleased to announce the return of a special event for all MAFW members in conjunction with our friends at Trek Stirling, 395 Main Street, Stirling, N.J. Safety is our number one priority for our members, and you should take advantage of this program. On Sunday morning, Trek Service Professionals will be on duty to provide a free, no obligation inspection of our members’ bikes prior to the start of the rides.

 Each member will receive a written evaluation of their bike’s condition and recommendations.  Trek will be offering a $50.00 discount on their level 2 service and $100 discount for Level 3 service, if needed. There will be refreshments, bagels, coffee and juices before and after the rides.  Trek will also have Trek Fest specials inside their store for members to shop after the ride. We are staggering the start times of the rides, so that Trek can properly inspect and discuss their findings with our riders. This has been a highly successful service so be sure to take advantage of this free inspection.  Parking will be in the Trek lot, next door at the Day Care Center, and along Main Street in Stirling.  Bathrooms are available in the store. Trek Service will be on duty at 8:00 am, so please arrive about 45 minutes to an hour before your ride starts.

NEW MEMBER RIDE-A new member ride has been posted for Saturday June 29 at 8:30am from Duke Island Park.  This is a special ride for new members who joined 2023 to now.  Focus of this ride is on new members.  At start of ride we will have a short instructional session on group riding and safety and also instruction on changing a flat.  We will be riding together with a stop at Wawa.  I hope you take advantage of this ride.

WAIT LIST – Ride leaders will occasionally restrict the number of riders on their ride.  If the ride fills up, you will be placed on the wait list.  If someone drops out and you are the first rider on the wait list, you will get a notice that you are on the ride.  If you are on the ride and decide not to do the ride, please if at all possible don’t wait until the last minute to cancel.  I understand emergencies pop up but do your best so the rider who moves from the wait list has time to prepare and get to the ride.

SUMMERTIME – With the heat of summer upon us I encourage ride leaders to start rides early to beat the heat.  All riders should have 2 water bottles and be sure to hydrate.  If you feel the heat getting to you pull over under a shady spot, rest awhile and hydrate.   All the more reason not to ride alone.  Don’t forget that sunscreen.

MAFW CALENDAR – Be sure to check the MAFW Calendar for those special rides.  Not only are there special day rides but there are also weekend and weeklong rides.  Suburban Cyclists Unlimited has a great regional calendar that we have permission to access.

So far we have a good group going to the Somerset Patriots game on Friday June 21.  Cost is only $25 and includes ticket to the game and all you can eat barbecue.  MAFW is subsidizing this event down from $36. Deadline to signup is tomorrow June 13 8pm.  Come out and join us.  Family members invited.

Just a reminder that come summer all rides from Colonial Park should be from Howe Athletic Parking Lot.  The rides tomorrow should be OK since it is not summer yet and it is Monday and it is Dave’s birthday.  However, be prepared if the Ranger approaches you to move.  The reason we have to switch to Howe is that the Colonial Park parking areas fill up during the summer for people using the park.  The Rangers don’t want cyclists taking up parking spaces and then leaving the park.  Thanks for your cooperation, Manny

This Saturday June 8 is the 2024 Revolutionary Ramble.  Come out and support this great charity event by signing up as a volunteer or registered rider.   We still need a few volunteers, and you can sign up here.  We can always use extra help at the various rest stops.  You can sign up as a registered rider online until tomorrow or you can sign up at the event.  You have your choice of 20, 35, 50, 70 or 100 rides with well supported rest stops.  Any questions you can contact me at 732-259-8990.
