KITTATINNY CORRECTION

Slight correction. For Kittatinny rides you should be able to use Limescrest on the weekdays.

START POINT RESTRICTIONS

During these summer months there are certain restrictions we have to follow regarding starting points:

  • For all Kittatinny rides from Memorial Day to Labor Day please use the Goodale Parking Area and not Limecrest.  Limecrest is reserved for those fishing or boating.
  • For Colonial Park use Howe Athletic Field Parking. There are Porta Johns and you can always drive to Lot C is you want to use a flushy.
  • For Duke Island Park use Lot A during the weekends.  Lot A is immediately on your left when you enter the park.  During weekdays you can use Lot B that is opposite the bathrooms.
  • I am not aware of any restrictions at Loantaka but on one weekend when we arrived for a ride the parking lot was full and we ended parking across the street.

Thanks for your cooperation, Manny

NEED RIDE LEADERS FOR SPECIAL RIDES

I just put in a series of proposed rides, and I need your help in signing up as ride leaders:

August 23 – Social ride from Harry Dunham.

September 14 – Fall picnic at White Oak Park.

October 7 – Milestone Ride from Pickell Park.

If you want to lead one of these rides but have an alternate ride you want to lead, please let me know and I will try and honor your request.

Thanks, Manny

NEW MEMBER DESIGNATION

An asterisk next to an attendee indicates a new member. An attendee will be considered a new member if they joined the club in the last 6 months and they have ridden on less than 5 rides since joining the club.  Please continue to give new members special attention on your rides. One thing you should always do is have your riders introduce themselves.  Thanks to Jon for setting this up.

SOUTH BRANCH ROAD CLOSURE/POTTERSVILLE RD/FALL PICNIC

BRANCHBURG – The second phase of the long awaited-replacement of a bridge and S-curve straightening on South Branch Road will get underway next month.

Somerset County has announced that South Branch Road will be closed to traffic from between Hillcrest Drive and Windfield Terrace for 50 days starting Aug. 4.

GLADSTONE – The bridge on Pottersville Rd before you reach Main St in Gladstone is passable by pedestrians and cyclists.

FALL PICNIC – Our Fall picnic will be held Sept 14 at White Oak Park.  I posted the picnic rides and looking for ride leaders for the rides.  If you need rides to reach 8 or 12 here is your chance to reach that magical goal.

GLADSTONE DETOUR

Pottersville Rd between Main Street and Riverview Ave is closed due to bridge replacement.  Can Riverview Ave be used to access Main Street?  Right now it says Riverview Ave is open to pedestrians. Has anyone tried to ride in that area?

Thanks,Manny

CHIP SEAL CORRECTION

Slight error on my last email. Sawmill Rd is not being chip sealed. Just Guinea Hollow and Sutton Roads are being chip sealed in Tewksbury.  That opens up many of our rides thru Mountainville.  I was also notified that Rockaway from Taylors Mill to Pottersville was just chip sealed.  Manny

CHIP SEAL UPDATE AND RIDE LEADER AWARD REMINDER

RIDE LEADER AWARDS-For this year there are two levels of Awards:

$25 for 8 Led Rides (cancels do not count)

$50 or RL Jersey for 12 or more rides.

Ride leaders have until September 30, 2025 to record rides.

CHIP SEALING-Next week approximately starting Monday, Guinea Hollow, Sawmill and Sutton Roads will all be chip sealed. They may not be safely rideable for 2 weeks after they are done. All of our tours making a right at Mountainville use these roads. The only option is Philhower and that is not much of an option.

DENVILLE D RIDE SUNDAY 8/3

We had a late addition to the BTCNJ/MAFW Beer, Brew and Pizza ride tomorrow Sunday 8/3.  Thanks to Jan Gorban there will be a D ride from Denville.

While riding in this hot weather be sure to hydrate, hydrate and hydrate.  Have at least 2 water bottles with you and I recommend electrolyte additives.  Also be sure to use sunscreen.  If you feel lightheaded or faint pull over in the shade and rest.  Very important to not ride alone and that includes the ride leader.

If you are interested in becoming a ride leader to help out the club, feel free to contact me anytime.  I have decided to continue my role as ride coordinator.

RIDE COORDINATOR UPDATE

Jon Eiseman has made some additional improvements to the ride leader position.  Ride Leaders can now change the ride leader for their ride in case they can’t lead their ride.
This is in addition to the earlier change that allows ride leaders to change the time of their ride.

Revisions to the ride leader handbook is in progress and the revised handbook will be issued soon.

A ride leader zoom meeting will be scheduled.  Feel free to send me items or issues you want discussed at the meeting.

Thanks, Manny
