From the Ride Coordinator

As we discussed at the kickoff meeting, we are pleased to announce the May party ride for next Saturday, 5/16/26. .  This month our rides will commence from White Oak Park in Branchburg.  After the completion of the rides, we will drive 3 miles to Readington Brewery where we will be serving pizza at appoximately 12:30 p.m. Beverages consumed will be the responsibility of the member.  All beverages consumed must be purchased from Readington Brewery while on their premises. We are looking for 2 more ride leaders, for the C plus#1297 and D rides #1298.  Those rides are listed as proposed on the schedule for next week. Arnie and I are leading the D plus and C rides respectively. Come out and join us on this fun Saturday next week. Any questions , please let me know. Thanks again.

Join Baltimore Bicycling Club for their 42nd annual event! 4 days and 3 nights of cycling the flat, scenic roads of Kent County, Maryland. We’re staying in the dorms of Washington College, in the historic port city of Chestertown, MD. Rides for all levels and abilities from 10-100 miles. This is a non competitive event.  For more information and to register go to our MAFW calendar.

A few of us are trying to get a few riders to get a suite at Washington College.  If interested please call me at 732-259-8990. 

 

• SPRING KICKOFF will be held Apr 19 at Harry Dunham with rides at all levels after the meeting.  Go to the MAFW Calendar to sign up and check out the Ride Schedule to sign up for a ride.
• HERSEY SPRING CYCLING WEEKEND will be held from 5/15 to 5/17. Check out the MAFW Calendar for more information.  If you registered for the event be sure to sign up also on the Ride Schedule.
• CHESTERTOWN WEEKEND will be held from 5/22 to 5/25. Check out the MAFW Calendar for more information. 
• Be sure to check out the MAFW Calendar for other special events.
• If you want to become a ride leader, just send me an email and I will go over the straightforward process with you.

RIDE COORDINATOR UPDATE:

• Spring Kickoff – Just a reminder that April 19 is the Spring Kickoff at Harry Dunham.  We have all rides covered except for C+ ride.  If you are planning to attend the Kickoff meeting be sure to go to the MAFW calendar to sign up since we are limited to 60 participants.
• Ride Leader Awards – If you lead 15 or more rides during the ride year (Oct 1 to Sept 30), you will receive a $50 gift card. Cancelled rides do not count. If you lead rides during the ride year you will be invited to the annual club volunteer pizza party, usually held in October.
• Conflicting Rides – You cannot put in conflicting rides during the spring and fall picnics. It was decided that, for social rides, no other rides should be scheduled within two hours before the start or three hours after the start of a social ride.  Rides from other locations will be allowed.
• Road Hazards – As we start riding this Spring be aware of road hazards.  When we left Pluckemin recently I noticed a lot of potholes as soon as we left the parking lot. It was an obstacle course.
• Dangerous tours – We discussed at the RL zoom meeting, if you come across a tour where you think certain parts of the tour are dangerous to cycling, please let me know.  Last year I did make inactive tours on lower part of Green Pond Rd near Denville.

In preparation for our discussion on Monday, I wanted to share with you your efforts in leading rides in the year that just passed 10/1/24-9/30/25.This document sorts led rides by location. as well as identifies who led the most rides from that location as well.  We can use this data as a guide in deciding your preference where we want to schedule party rides this year and when.

RIDE COORDINATOR UPDATE:

• Just a reminder that April 19 is the Spring Kickoff at Harry Dunham.  We still have a few rides that need ride leaders.  Tour #809 lists a bridge out on Pottersville Rd at Peapack. I checked and cyclists and pedestrians are allowed to cross the bridge while construction is being completed.
• If you are planning to attend the Kickoff meeting be sure to go to the MAFW calendar to sign up since we are limited to 60 participants.
• SAFETY MOMENT During your safety talk at start of your ride one item you should emphasize is that if you are leading a group, you should never yell “CLEAR”.  What is clear for you may not be clear to the riders following you.
