I set up the rides for the Spring Kickoff from Brookside. Last time we held Spring Kickoff at Brookside was 4/16/2016 and looking forward to a great meeting and rides. If you want to lead one of the rides, please contact me. If you have an idea for a different ride, please let me know. Tentative start time for the rides is 11 am and could be later or sooner depending on when meeting ends and cleanup is complete.

WOODFERN BRIDGE-Bridge is “officially” closed. During a recent storm a tree fell on the bridge causing damage to the upper supports. Tree has been removed. Easy detour is Woodfern to Amwell to Blackpoint. You can probably cross the bridge if no construction workers are present but that is your decision.
NESHANIC STATION-When you cross the White Bridge from Neshanic Station you can’t make a left onto River Road to get to Opie Road due to construction. Recommend making a right and then a quick left onto Mill Ln to get to Opie/River Rd. I happen to like Mill Ln better than Opie.
OTTO BURGER-Bad news is Brick Farm Market in Hopewell has closed and moved a short distance down the road and has significantly downsized with less to offer. Good news is Otto Burger has moved into the vacated spot and I have been told that they have pastries, coffee, etc to offer. I will be checking it out soon.

North Branch River Rd – This section of road between RT202 and Old York Rd has been closed while a new bridge is being built. Looks like bridge work is complete and I hope road will be open soon.
Woodfern Bridge – The tree that fell on the bridge was removed and the upper works of the bridge did sustain some damage but the road bed seems OK. The bridge is still closed.
Layton Rd – Layton Rd from Liberty Corner Rd to Douglas Rd is closed due to road repairs but Douglas Rd is now fully open. To get around closure of Layton just use Douglas.

Watchung Amateur Ski Club is running a bus trip to Plattekill this Sunday and has a few openings. Cost of trip for nonmembers is $135 and includes bus transportation, breakfast, apres-ski snacks and lift ticket. Rentals can be arranged and trip open to families. Bus leaves from Hyatt Golf Course in Clark at 6am. Alternate pickup in Mahwah on RT17. At least 6 members of WASC are also members of MAFW and during the year we run joint cycling trips. During this recent storm a tree fell on the Woodfern Bridge as you can see in the attached picture. The bridge will be out of action for several months and don’t plan on crossing the bridge while being repaired. One easy detour is make a right turn onto Woodfern Rd from Three Bridges Rd, left on Amwell, left onto Blackpoint after very short distance, and then right onto Woodfern. Woodfern from bridge to Amwell is a little bumpy but you are on Woodfern only ~1/2 mile and it is level and paved. If coming from Wawa take Summer Rd to Briar Way to Lehigh. I will leave it up to you to determine best detour for your ride. Today the Blackpoint bridge was OK but road from the bridge to Woodfern was a little flooded but should be OK tomorrow. Duke Island Park is closed due to flooding but should be open soon. Time for John Storey to schedule a kayak trip but just duck when going under the bridges.

Several of us have registered again for the Bon Ton Roulet, a multiday ride in the Finger Lakes of New York. About 8 MAFW riders did it last year and had a great time.
