A ride through a beautiful countryside with great vistas of rolling farmlands; a few  hills to test the lungs but nothing drastic, and mostly before the stop!. "Fedora ride" - flat to start and finish with a climb in the middle (gentle to Mountainville on Rockaway, harder out of Mountainville on Guinea Hollow) then a "dimple" downhill into Califon and a climb out of Califon (gentle on Frog Hollow). NOTE: Similar to tour #898, but starting from Pluckemin/Bed-1 instead of RVCC. Use tour #866 to avoid Black River Road.

Hello fellow Freewheelers! Please come join me on this ride.  I hope to average 16 mph, but I will regroup as necessary so C+ riders are welcome. Nobody gets dropped. 

There are some hills on this route (it does start and finish on top of Schooley's Mtn.). However, it's not nearly as taxing as you might think, because the climb back up the ridge is long and gradual.

CAUTION: At mile 15.7, a long downhill on Rocky Run Road ends at a stop sign T at Route 31. Extreme caution needed crossing 31 with cars and trucks at highway speed.

Food stops: Mini-Mart @ BP station on Rt. 31 (mile 23.9).

Ride from Loantaka Park into the Great Swamp, through Meyersville and along Fairmount Ave. and Southern Blvd. in Chatham. One good hill out of the Swamp, otherwise easy terrain.

Ride many of the roads around the Swamp that you already know, but in the reverse direction.

CLIMBS: Hardscrabble to Jockey Hollow Rd, 300' in 2 miles, with the Jockey Hollow Rd portion quite steep, @ mile 17.5.

Weather is predicted to be in the 40's with very little wind.  This tour takes us on some very familiar roads as well as some that aren't often ridden. A civilized ride - no one gets dropped. We can stop about half way at Ridge Bagel if the group wants or ride through. Only 29 miles.
