Spring Picnic Update

Greetings, Friends.

You can now sign up for great rides for the picnic on Saturday, 5/17.   Click the calendar link on the website so we can get a head count in addition to signing up for a ride.

Ride Leaders for the C+/B and B/B rides are needed.

The club will provide supplies, beverages, and yummy sloppy Joe’s

If your last name starts with A-H, please bring a dessert

If your last name starts with I-Q please bring an appetizer

If you last name starts with R-Z please bring a salad

If you don’t know what letter your last name starts with,  please bring 12 of each of the above.

We need a few volunteers to help with set up and clean up.  Contact John Storey to volunteer, social@mafw.org.  You’d probably need to arrive at Pickell Park around 10:30 but John will provide details.

No other club rides will be allowed on 5/17 as per a vote of the majority of the Board.  Here is the rationale:

We want to maximize our efforts to deliver the best possible experience to the largest number of members. The more we accomplish in promoting these programs and touting our successes of social media, it will serve as the best possible recruitment tool to attract new members.

Having said that, at last night’s Board meeting we began to discuss reconsidering not allowing other rides to be posted on days the club runs special events and this discussion will continue at next month’s Board meeting.

Looking forward to seeing you for some great rides, great food, and great friends.

Best regards,

Michael

RIDE COORDINATOR UPDATE

SPRING PICNIC – The MAFW Spring Picnic has been set and will be held at Pickell Park Saturday May 17. Rides at all paces have been set and will be posted soon.  More information will follow and be sure to not only pick a ride but sign up via website main page.

If not sure how to get to Pickell Park see below.

TIME TO STARTPOINT-When deciding to do a ride with MAFW you should always plan to arrive 30 minutes before the posted start time. Rides start right at the start time and safety talk is given before the start time.  To determine how long it takes to get a starting point, on the schedule for that ride select “Starting Point” and then on the left side of the screen in the small white box select “Directions”.  Destination is given and you just need to put in your address.  Traffic at that time is factored in.

REGIONAL BICYCLING EVENTS DE NJ PA – Like last year I am sharing a calendar of regional bicycling events in DE, NJ, and PA prepared by Suburban Cyclists Unlimited Cycling Club.  In addition to taking advantage of the rides on our Morris Area Freewheeler Schedule, I encourage you to check out these special event rides.

Calendar of Regional Bicycling Events DE NJ PA – Suburban Cyclists Unlimited

TOUR DE FRANKIN – One special event ride that took place this past Sunday was the Tour de Franklin.  12 MAFW riders did this event and had a good time despite the strong winds.  We all completed the metric century and proceeds from this ride benefited the Franklin Food Bank.

PICKELL PARK PICNIC RIDE MAY 17

The Spring picnic ride has been set at Pickell Park May 17 and proposed rides have been set on the schedule.  Please select a ride you want to lead and please do it soon so the membership can select a ride.   Right now, only ride leaders can see the proposed picnic rides and riders can’t select a ride until there is a ride leader.  If you have a recommendation for an alternate ride you want to lead let me know.

Thanks, Manny
