Faster D+ riders welcome.  Not much climbing.  An easy start to the week.  Sunny to partly cloudy with a hint of a breeze.  All in all it should be a Goldilocks ride.

09/20Mon 10:00amC/B/29/1500Harry Dunham ParkJeff Sperling676 - Liberty Corner to Pluckemin52

Over the past two weeks, we have encountered lots of bridges that we’ve had to lift ourselves and our bikes over barricades to continue our rides. I was determined to find a ride that we could complete without any storm impediments. I found this ride, drove it today, and I’m ready to lead it. It has not been ridden in over a year. I would say 1/3 of the distance are on roads that will be  new to most riders. Other familiar roads we will be going opposite to the usual routes. There  is a surprising amount of climbing for a short distance. Right out of the gate we climb Somerville Road to the top, and Crim Road has some elevation as well. After that we have lots of rolling terrain. The only change, of course, will be when we encounter the road closure at Liberty Corner Road and Douglas at the end of the ride . You know the drill by now, left on Douglas, right on Mine Brook, right on Cantebury, and we will back to the start. Current weather forecast for Monday looks great. Since the ride will approximate 30 miles, I’m not planning a stop, but we have the Far Hills train station at mile 26 if needed. Come join me on Monday.

A country ride that winds through Bedminster, Pluckemin and Far Hills 5: Ron Polansky(C), Tracy Brown(C), Naomi Falange, Eric Lavitsky(B)ridden

Let's ride to Hopewell on beautiful day. Easy  ride with few hills.

Turns out it is possible to get to Hopewell without going over the Sourlands, making this route very flat - almost D terrain. A pleasant ride to Hopewell on familiar roads through Somerset and Mercer counties. Food at the Brick Farm or Boro Bean which never disappoint. No guns or cannoli's. Tour by Les Garber (2016). 09/21Tue 10:00amB/B/57/2962Summer Road Park, ReadingtonJonathan Brainin183 - Stockton for Scalawags II52

It looks to be another beautiful day for cycling--the last one before three straight days of rain--so let's do a ride that's a bit longer than usual.

I will sweep at ~16mph avg.  Wanna-B's (aka strong C+ riders) are welcome so long as they can handle the pace.

Do not use the route linked from the club website.  Use this route instead: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/37554921. I've modified the route to avoid Lower Creek Road which was apparently rendered impassable by Ida.

Similar to tour 883, but start point at Summer Road Park. A new way to head up the plateau, past Sky Manor Airport and come into Frenchtown the back way. Then the ups & downs, twists & turns begin for a rest stop along the canal in Stockton. Back home via Lower Creek. You won't be disappointed -- the scenery is beautiful. Tour by Muffin Williams (2017).

This will add 2 miles to the ride.  Sundown starts at 6:56.

A wonderfully flat and relaxing ride around the Swamp. A great beginners ride. You get the serenity of the Great Swamp.

09/25Sat 8:30amB/C/170/4250Hammonton Middle SchoolRoy Fischman1264 - Wharton Two Day Adventure **CANCELED**25

This unique trip is being offered again. Any trippers who wishes can drive down the night before and stay at a hotel near the start of this ride. The closest hotel is the Red Carpet Inn, in Hammonton, N.J.

This is a self supported ride. Riders will carry any clothing that they need with them. Possibilities are a bike bag or a small daypack, like the Jansport I use, pictured below, to carry one change of bicycling clothing for the next day, some clothes for the night, walking shoes for the night, maybe a bathing suit, and a tooth brush. We are going at an easy pace and stopping for breaks.
Jansport backpack.jpg

This route has been designed by a member of the Princeton Freewheelers. I have made this a joint ride with the Staten Island Bicycling Association.

This will be a B+ pace but we will form groups according to speed.

The ride will start on September 25, at 9 am, from the parking lot of the Hammonton Middle School 75 N. Liberty St. Hammonton NJ, 08037. We will park by the tennis courts.
We ride 87.7 miles to our hotel, the Red Roof Inn, close to the Monmouth, Mall. After the hotel overnight, we ride 81.9 miles back to Hammonton, N.J.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The hotel, Red Roof Inn, charges $72.00. If anyone chooses not to stay at that hotel, there is also a Quality Inn, $99 for the night, and a DoubleTree by Hilton for $188 for the night.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Each person going will have to contact the hotel themselves to pay.

Restaurants near the hotels are Applebees, Maurizzio Pizzeria, Kwong Fa takeout or Jersey Shore Deli takeout. Also, a trip to the Jersey shore, Long Branch NJ, about 5 miles is possible. If the forecast is for rain close to the event, it will be cancelled.

09/25Sat 9:30amC/B/41/2219Chatham M.S.Jeff Sperling196 - Chatham-Mendham Reverse54

In June I led # 146.  This ride mirrors that ride but goes in the reverse direction and will be less overall climbing. It has not been ridden in the last year. We will go past  some amazing mansions in Bernardsville. Current weather forecast looks good. We can stop at either Krauzers or the Millington Train station cafe. Please park closer to the Chatham Middle School and away from the church parking lot. Come join me on Saturday.

This is the Chatham-Bernardsville Roundabout in reverse. It's long been known that cycling a ride in reverse can change it's character and this ride will prove it. It's not possible, but this ride seems less hilly this way.

At the Picnic, someone suggested a ride to the Cider Mill.

Their Web site shows that the Cider Mill is open Thursday - Sunday from 10 am t0 5pm. (I will confirm this tomorrow - Thursday)

This will be my first time riding this route.   I hope my Domane LT will power me up the hills.

Please join me for a fun ride on a cool Friday Morning.

We will STOP at the Cider Mill for a snack and then return to Bed 1.

Bring a Cue Sheet and a Mask.

A slightly shorter version of tour 1110, with a more direct return from Oldwick, skipping the climb up King St. But you still get the big climb up Black River to be rewarded with a cider donut at the Cider Mill. "Sombrero" terrain profile - mostly flat to begin (but does include the Burnt Mills bump), big, tough climb up Black River, ride along plateau, then big downhill on Fox Hill (great view) then mostly flat back to start. Beginning in West Milford, this ride goes north along Clinton reservoir and Upper Greenwood Lake to Warwick and Monroe NY (near Walton Lake), returning by way of the entire low-traffic East shore of Greenwood Lake and Sterling Forest to West Milford. With beautiful views of lakes and farms, this ride is challenging yet highly rewarding. Thanks to BTCNJ for the basic route for this ride provided in 2008. This tour is based on tour 656 but a little shorter and less elevation gain near the end when more elevation is just not what you're looking for.

Food stops:  Cumberland Farms  in Greenwood Lake, NY at mile 33.1. Purchase food here and take it to the gazebo on Greenwood lake on Waterstone Rd at mile 33.4 for a great lunch view. There is a Dairy Queen about mile 43 on Marshall Hill Rd right after exiting the shoreline hills of Greenwood Lake.. just when the suggestion of ice cream sounds like a really good idea.

Restrooms: None at the start point, but there are several fast food establishments on rt. 23 West on the way to the start. Also at mile 10.6, we always stop at a ball field with a port-a-john. Cumberland Farms rest stop has a rest room
