Tour_096 Modified for 10-18-20

This is a genuine century ride, with 2505' of climbing, starting at Colonial Park, lot F. Think of it as 250' of climbing for every 10 miles - a piece of cake. There will be 4 rest stops. Tom Beringer is leading the same ride at a C pace. His son Chris will drive the SAG truck, which will meet us at the start and every 25 miles or so (25.6, 44.7, 69 and 81.6 miles).  Feel free to bring a small bag with extra gear, food, drinks, and bring any “shareables” which will be made available for everyone (baked items are always a hit).  Chris will have water, a bike stand and some tools just in case…  He’s pretty handy with the tools…

A meandering century through Somerset, Hunterdon, Mercer, and Middlesex Counties. Lunch stop in picturesque Allentown. Light traffic and small hills. Suggested rest stops include: 25.8 miles Terhune Orchards, 404. miles Wawa before Rt130, 44.7 miles Woody's Towne Cafe or Moth Coffeehouse in Allentown, 64.7 miles Roy's Deli & Market, 81.6 miles McCaffrey's Food Market. Cue sheet written to start from Colonial Park LotF.  Start point switched to Howe Athletic Field. From Howe make right onto Elizabeth Ave and left onto Amwell to get on Cue.  At end make right onto Colonial Drive to Howe. 8: Dave Hall(C), Jay Raju(B), Joseph Reo(C+), David Pozo(NA), Andrew Glassman(C), Jessica Simpson(B), Maurice Alvarez(B), Gary Binstock(C+)ridden

Hi All,

Some additional information about our Century tour:

  • My son Chris will drive the SAG vehicle - so feel free to drop off a small gear bag and food (please put your name on both if practical).  I'll have a few coolers with ice, or you can bring a small cooler (we could have 45 cyclists)
  • I've customized the CUE sheet to update the food availability, designate restrooms/porta johns, and highlight three (3) SAG stops each having restrooms, food and access to my truck (White Ram Pickup).  Should you decide to drop off a bag and/or cooler please understand that (if you're very fast) you may have to wait at the parking area for the SAG as he'll do his best to remain at each SAG stop for all riders...  Please print the latest version (available on Saturday Oct 17th) and bring it with you..
  • The mobile numbers of all three ride leader and my son's are listed on the CUE sheet if needed
  • I'll have a variety of snack bars, 10 gallons of water to refill your bottles, bananas, tools, pump, first aid kit....., paper towels, hand sanitizer and anti-bacterial wipes

I'm not going to comment on the weather, however it should be an awesome day!!!!  I'm looking forward to seeing you all.  We leave promptly at 8:00 so please plan on arriving in time for a brief safety talk.....

Thanks to Sam for "co-leading"!!!

Tom

A bit of a haul to the start, but worth it. A great ride with peak fall foliage. There will be an optional 2 mile digression to see the Goshen Historic Race Track , the oldest continuously operating horse race track (trotters) in the US.  Every time we visit, there are trotters working out. The town of Goshen is full of beautiful victorian homes. In addition, the fragrant black earth onion fields and the quaint towns of Florida and Warwick complete this great ride.

Cycle through the black dirt onion fields of Pine Island, NY up to Goshen and then back to the quaint towns of Florida and Warwick. Excellent cycling on lightly traveled country roads. A very scenic ride including a brief visit to the Historic Goshen Race Track, Appalachian Trail crossings and beautiful mountain views.  Definitely worth the trip to this out-of-area start point.

I am posting ride as another chance for those who missed this ride on Saturday. If you'd like to ride something different, that's out of our usual cycling area, this is a good option.

Cherry Valley Rd is one of the nicest roads you will find in the northeast. There are several scenic overlooks along the Delaware just before the Gap where you may want to stop and take a picture. No bathrooms at the start point but there is a Quick Check about a mile before you get to Belvedere on 46.  If you have not been to this start point, it is easiest to turn left before you get to the A&P (Closed but you can see the sign at the top of the hill as you approach).  We normally park in the northeast corner of the parking lot. FOOD stop at mile 35.4 (Turkey Hill) 10: Bill Kolano, Max Smith, Eric Lavitsky(B), E Leslie Graham-Yooll, Scott Corson(B), Alex Cefalu(C+), Dennis Sinauskas(B), Bob Wszolek(C+), Joe Canova(C+)ridden

Time to check out the Halloween decorations in Lambertville.  Costumes optional. I encourage faster riders to please put in a C+ or B ride at 9:15am.

It has come to my attention that they might try to restrict crowds in Lambertville on Halloween by not allowing decorations.  Also on Halloween when you enter Lambertville you need to put on a mask until you leave the town.

This is tour 1103 with start point moved to Summer Road Park. A different way into Lambertville through seldom used roads with delightful aspects. Also an easy no strain route out of Lambertville with good views. Tour by Chaim Schreiber (2017).

Here's a ride I haven't done this year.  Have nothing else going on for Halloween?  Then come along!

Planned deli stop at Oldwick general store at mile 21.6.

Travel the scenic areas of northern Somerset County. Mostly rolling with a few good climbs. Oldwick and Pottersville General Stores are open for a snack. Very similar to Tour #787, except around mile 14 goes Halls Mill - Potterstown to get to Rockaway instead of Taylors Mill ("straight at Chubb").

Food stops:
Oldwick General Store (mile 22) or Black River General Store in Pottersville (no restroom) continue on Black River Rd at mile mile 27. 6 then make a u-turn after the stop and then make a left on Potterstown Road to continue on the course.

This is the same tour as Manny's, at a later time, and possibly a little faster. Faster riders welcome! Manny has mentioned that Lambertville has required anyone outdoors in town (that'll be us) to wear a mask. When we get to the intersection just before the town (mile 19.8 at Rt. 29), we need to stop and put on our masks, and leave them on until we leave town. Rest stop is at the Basil Bandwagon next to Rojo's Roastery.

There are some hills on this route (it does start and finish on top of Schooley's Mtn.). However, it's not nearly as taxing as you might think, because the climb back up the ridge is long and gradual.
